Dad-- I know, right? Hard to believe I would hide behind the goalpost to avoid a half mile, and now I go run ON PURPOSE!

Kris-- I can thank (blame?) Cyndi for getting me started running. Having only sprinted before, I had no concept of how to run distance, and how totally different (and NOT awful) it is. Cyndi got us started, and then Janna and I followed a book for beginning marathons for non-runners. The mindset, suggestions and instruction were very good. Realistic and encouraging.

Now I'm hooked. :-) Good exercise, enjoy the outdoors, enjoy company or time alone. I can run alone now and do well, but honestly, I don't think I would have kept at it or enjoyed it at all had I not been running with someone. The company made all the difference for both motivation and encouragement.

Now I should go to bed... running with a new runner in the morning! ;-)

I have always wanted to like running. Always. I've had a "running career" so to speak--the Marine Corps kinda makes you run, and I've even done a few races, but I've always hated it. I've tried time and again to like it, and I just can't seem to do it! And I really really hated running with someone! That was something I always needed to do alone. I don't know if it came from either being annoyed because I was being slowed down by someone, or more often than not, worrying that I was slowing the other person down.
I am very surprised to find that you weren't always a runner! You really seem to love it--it suits you. :) How did you get started? Did you have a training plan, or did you just hit the road?
Anyway, I love hearing about your stuff, your runs, races, etc. and I super love that you run in running skirts. Stuff like that makes me wish I liked it. ;)

Knowing Jen in high school when she was a "high jumper",her track coach asked her to fill in for a race. Not sure how long the race was, but Jen was pretty adament about not doing the distance thing, but as a team player filled in. Reading this column makes me want to ask,Who is this woman and where is my daughter of many years ago?. Times change and after watching her complete the Maraine Corp. marathon last October,I see she continues to amaze me in her evolving.
